NBA PRESIDENT APPOINTS CHUKWU ANI AND NOAH AJARE AS CARETAKER CHAIRMAN AND SECRETARY OF ABUJA BRANCH
The attention of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association has been
drawn to a notice of meeting of Abuja Branch of the NBA which is scheduled to
hold on Friday the 7th day of July 2017 at National Universities Commission
Auditorium, Abuja being organized by one
Ezenwa Anumnu.
We wish to state with all emphasis that the said Ezenwa
Anumnu is not the Chairman of NBA Abuja
Branch. By the NBA NEC's resolution of 2nd March 2017 held in Aba, Abia State, the said Ezenwa Anumnu, Victor Abasiakan, Lawrence Erewele and Chinedu Obienu have been
removed as factional chairmen and secretaries respectively of NBA Abuja Branch.
Though the High Court FCT,
Apo Division presided by Hon.
Justice Kekemeke granted an order of injunction to restrain NBA from conducting
fresh elections into the offices of chairman and secretary of Abuja Branch
respectively, the court did not grant the prayer of Ezenwa Anuminu to recognise
him as the Chairman of Abuja Branch of
the NBA.
Notwithstanding, NBA
has filed notice of appeal against the said ruling as well as a motion for injunction to restrain the said Ezenwa Anumnu from parading himself as
the chairman of NBA Abuja Branch. The
said application is still pending though Ezenwa Anumnu has been served. It is
our belief that Mr. Ezenwa Anumnu would
allow the rule of law to take its natural course by calling off the said
meeting immediately in order not to undermine the outcome of the Appeal and
unnecessary avoidable confusion.
Section 8(5) III of the Nigerian Bar Association 2015
constitution empowers the President to coordinate the affairs of branches .In
the circumstance, Princess Frank
-Chukwuani and Noah Ajare have been
appointed as the Acting Chairman and Secretary
of NBA Abuja branch respectively pending the determination of the
appeal. Their appointments take immediate effect.
We enjoin our colleagues to be calm and cooperate with the
acting chairman and secretary for the development and progress of the Branch.
Dated 5th July 2017
Isiaka Abiola Olagunju Esq
General Secretary,
NBA
