THE INAUGURATION OF THE NBA NORTH EAST TASK FORCE AND NBA NIGER DELTA TASK FORCE

PROTOCOL National Officers of the NBA, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Chairmen and Members of the Task Forces being inaugurated, Learned Colleagues of our noble profession, Representatives of International Donor Agencies, Invited Guests, Gentlemen of the Press, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen INTRODUCTION I am pleased to welcome you all to this event of the inauguration of the Task Forces on the North East and the Niger Delta crises by the Nigerian Bar Association. One of the tripartite roles of a Bar Association, is the fulfilment of its responsibility for the promotion of public interest. In my inaugural speech I identified four key public interest challenges which the NBA will seek to actively engage with:   the fight against corruption,  Reform of the judiciary,  Insurgency and reconstruction of the North East,  and resolution of the crisis in the Niger Delta. BODY OF SENIOR ADVOCATES OF NIGERIA BACKS MAHMOUD FOR CALL ON ARRESTED JUDGES TO RECUSE

The Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria has thrown it's weight behind the call by the NBA President on the Arrested judges to proceed on leave of absence pending when they are given a clean bill of heath.The Body met in Lagos today to endorse every action taken by the NBA President Abubakar Balarabe Mahmud SAN so far on the unfortunate incident. The meeting was attended by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as well as  the NBA President. Also in attendance was JK GADZAMA,SAN who met with Mahmoud for the first time since the later assumed office as the 28th President of the Nigerian Bar Association. The Body reiterated it's support for the NBA in its efforts to fight corruption in the Judiciary.

Justice Sotonye Denton-West Distinguished ladies and gentlemen. INTRODUCTION It is indeed a great honour and a privilege to be invited to speak at this special sitting of this Hon. Court to mark the retirement of Hon. Justice Sotonye Denton-West. Hon. Justice Denton-West is easily one of the most ebullient personalities of this Court. She is always highly spirited and maintains a warm and caring relationship with people around her. I am delighted therefore, to make these remarks on behalf of the Nigerian Bar Association, but also on a personal note, to express on behalf of my wife Hon. Justice Mahmoud and myself our sincere warm wishes to my Lord

AB MAMOUD LEADS THE BAR TO ASO ROCK, RESTATES NBA POSITION ON JUDGES' ARREST

In his determination to move the Bar to its proper place as one of the foremost Bar Associations in the World, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association Mr. Abubakar Balarabe Mamoud, SAN paid a courtesy call on His Excellency the Vice President, Prof Yemi Oshinbajo, SAN in Aso Rock, presidential villa yesterday the 17th day of Oct 2016. In his entourage for the visit were General Secretary Mr. Isiaka Olagunju, National Officers and some notable members of the Bar such as Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, Garba Tetengi SAN, S.I Ameh SAN, Muyiwa Akinboro SAN, Prof Chidi Odimkalu and Muritala Abdul-Rasheed (Murray). The purpose of the visit to the seat of power was to pay homage to the VP in his official capacity as the most senior Learned official in Government. It is the first official courtesy call to be paid by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association after being sworn as the 28th President of the Bar at the 56th Annual General conference of NBA held in Port Harcourt.
